YS-549A Fabric Touch Tester

Scope of Application

【Operating Instructions】

Fabric hand feel and style are not only important criteria for judging textile comfort but also significant factors affecting textile sales. Therefore, instruments for measuring fabric hand feel have always been a research focus in textile technology. There is an urgent need for a correct, effective, and objective quantitative evaluation of fabric hand feel. Based on the concept of single-machine, single-measurement, multi-index testing, this system simulates human hand actions such as pulling, pressing, pinching, kneading, and rubbing to test properties like thickness, bending, compression, friction, and tensile strength. It yields five quantitative indicators—thickness, softness, stiffness, smoothness, and tightness—to objectively evaluate the comprehensive hand feel style of fabrics. It is suitable for general fibrous sheet products: apparel fabrics, home textile fabrics, non-woven fabrics, yarns, automotive interiors, leather, paper, etc.

[Scope of Application]Fabric hand feel and style are not only important criteria for judging textile comfort but also significant factors affecting textile sales. [Test Principle]The system simulates the subjective process of a human hand feeling fabric. The indenters used are cylindrical, visually simulating human fingers with fine textures to mimic fingerprints. The indenter configuration (one on top, two on the bottom) simulates the human touch process. The system quantifies corresponding indicators through physical tests such as compression, bending, friction, and tensile testing, obtaining curved surface compression thickness, Softness (SF), Stiffness (ST), Smoothness (SM), and Tightness (LT), thereby evaluating the comprehensive fabric style.

  1. Thickness Indicator: The thickness of the fabric under curved surface compression.

  2. Stage I: Curved surface compression yields compression modulus, compression deformation, etc., represented as Softness (SF).

  3. Stage II: Bending test yields maximum bending value, bending modulus, bending work, etc., represented as Stiffness (ST).

  4. Stage III: Friction test yields average friction force, friction coefficient, friction work, etc., represented as Smoothness (SM).

  5. Stage IV: Tensile test yields tensile modulus, tensile work, etc., represented as Tightness (LT).

Comprehensive Evaluation:Comprehensive Hand Feel (CH) = ASF + BST + CSM + DLT. The system classifies each indicator (SF, ST, SM, LT) into five levels (1 to 5). The comprehensive style is the weighted sum of softness, stiffness, smoothness, and tightness. Coefficients A, B, C, and D are comprehensively determined based on the material's usage, type, and texture.
